The Mumbai Owner's Notebook: On Living with an M5 CS
How I Ended Up With a BMW M5 CS in Mumbai (And Why It’s Not as Crazy as It Sounds) You know that moment when you’re stuck in traffic on the Western Express Highway, sweating through your shirt, an auto-rickshaw practically in your lap, and you think — My God, what am I doing with my life?
I was supposed to buy something sensible. A nice, quiet German sedan. Something that whispers “success” but doesn’t scream “show-off.” But then I saw it online — the BMW M5 CS. Carbon fibre everywhere, those crazy bucket seats, that bonkers V8. A car made for racetracks and unrestricted autobahns.
And I live in Mumbai. Where “unrestricted” means you found a parking spot.
But something in me snapped. Every day here is negotiation — with traffic, with weather, with time. Maybe… just maybe… I wanted something that didn’t ask me to compromise.
Let's begin by exploring the core features of this product and understanding what if offers on paper and in practical use.
First Impressions: “It Actually Blends In (Sort Of)”:- You’d think a car like this would turn heads. It doesn’t, not really. In a city where Lamborghinis and Rolls Royces are regulars in Bandra, the M5 CS is… stealthy. It’s big, yes. But it’s not loud or low. It’s like a well-dressed bodyguard — you know it’s serious, but it’s not looking for trouble.
The first real surprise?
The ride. I was expecting back-breaking stiffness. But it’s… composed. Firm, sure — you feel every patch, every rumble strip — but not crashy. Mumbai roads are a minefield of potholes and surprises, and the CS takes them with a muted thud rather than a bang. You learn to drive smooth, to read the road three cars ahead. The car rewards patience, even when it’s begging to run.
Engine & Performance:- The CS’s 4.4-litre twin-turbo V8 does not just make huge power — it delivers it with composure that is almost unnatural for a nearly 2-tonne sedan. Peak power is higher than the M5 Competition, and thanks to significant weight reduction and bespoke chassis tuning, this CS launches hard yet controlled. In real driving, 0–100 km/h in approximately 3.0 seconds feels effortless yet totally thrilling. The transition from throttle tip-in to the rev limiter is crisp, and on the highway the acceleration just refuses to relent.
Daily Driving:- On city roads, the CS is surprisingly balanced. The adaptive suspension soaks up bumps without crashing you into the seats, and motorway cruising is surprisingly relaxed given the ferocity lurking beneath. However, you will feel its sporting setup on bad patches — this car was made to be driven, not floated.
Track Capability:- Switch into Sport+ and la unch control — and it is like being strapped onto a rocket. The AWD system hooks up brilliantly, torque is poured to the tarmac without wheelspin, and the brakes bite without fade. This is not just fast; it is precise.
Ride, Handling & Chassis:- Handling is where the M5 CS stakes its claim over the Competition. Steering is tighter and communicates better feedback, body control feels sharper, and the suspension springs and stabilizers really keep body roll in check. Mid-corner adjustments are easy, predictable, and inspiring — even at triple-digit speeds.
The car’s weight remains apparent compared to lighter sports sedans, but it is so well masked that you begin to forget it is a four-door heavyweight. It truly carries its weight well.
Interior & Features:- Inside, there is a beautiful juxtaposition of luxury and motorsport. Carbon fibre sports seats hug you tight in fast corners, and Alcantara trims on the dash and steering wheel scream performance. Tech is typical BMW: extensive, logical, and mostly intuitive, though some features feel a generation behind top rivals. Still, you hardly notice when you are pinned back in the seat and the V8 growls.
Practicality & Daily Usability:- For most buyers, this remains a daily-usable sedan. Front seats are supportive even on long drives, rear passengers get decent space, and boot size is fine for luggage. Fuel economy is predictably low, as high-performance cars do not care about efficiency, and tire and brake wear can be steep if driven hard regularly — this is something potential owners should budget for.
Living With It: The Quirks & Truths
Let’s be real.
Fuel economy? Let’s not talk about it. Let’s just say I’m friends with the petrol pump guy in Juhu now.
Speed breakers? You approach them like a priest approaching a shrine — with respect, and very, very slowly.
Monsoons? Terrifying. You don’t fear crashing. You fear drowning. That low front lip, those giant tyres — one wrong puddle and you’re calling for help.
But inside… oh, inside. Those carbon bucket seats hug you like they mean it. The Alcantara steering wheel feels alive in your hands. The dashboard is all business — no nonsense, just focus. It feels special. Even when you’re not moving.
And that’s the thing no review tells you:
You don’t love this car for what it does every day.
You love it for what it is.
For the promise it holds. For that quiet confidence you feel when you slide into the driver’s seat, even if you’re just going to the grocery store.
Verdict: A Different Kind of Special
Would it make more sense elsewhere? Absolutely.
Does it feel special in Mumbai? Profoundly so—in a quieter, more intimate way.
The M5 CS is one of the most thrilling super-saloons ever made, a blistering fusion of daily usability and track capability. But in the context of Mumbai, it becomes something else: a symbol of reserved potential, a masterclass in controlled power, and a private delight in a public chaos. It’s not the car the city needs, but for the few who choose it, it makes all the sense in the world.
Rating: ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ (9.3/10) — for the machine.
Rating: ❤️⭐⭐⭐⭐ — for the Mumbai experience.

We have one customer with an M8. Same story. The underside tells the real Mumbai story. Bring it to us for careful lifts and alignments. These cars are princes, not paupers. They need a gentle touch. Advice? Check your tyre pressure every week. Potholes don't forgive. Drive safe.

Beta, such a nice write-up. But my God, the fuel! And the stress! When I bought my Camry, I also wanted something 'special'... but special for my back and my monthly budget. Still, if it makes you smile when you open that garage, maybe it's worth every rupee. Just be careful near Haji Ali, the roads are terrible there.

This isn't a review; it's a mood. That line about 'something that didn’t ask me to compromise' hit me hard. This is life goals right here. Saving this post. One day, when my startup exits, this is the kind of irrational, perfect decision I want to make. Keep living the dream, sir!

Ha! Welcome to the club of 'Why Did I Do This in Mumbai?' I have a Cayenne Turbo that also feels utterly absurd and completely necessary. We don't buy these cars for utility; we buy them for the 2% of the time they make the 98% of the struggle worth it. See you at the same petrol pump in Juhu, I suppose?

Good, good. A man should have one thing in his life that is just for joy. Not for family, not for society, not for logic. Just for him. This car is your thing. Drive safe, enjoy the breeze on Marine Drive at 5 AM. That is the real Mumbai luxury.
